Al Adelman is one of the principal authors and editors of a new publication from American Health Lawyers entitled “Peer Review Hearing Guidebook.” The Guidebook focuses on the legal issues involved in conducting peer review hearings, procedures and medical staff bylaws that should be in place to facilitate and effective and fair hearing, and practical steps tat can be taken to improve the peer review and hearing processes. More information about the Guidebook can be found at http://www.lexisnexis.com/ahla/ProductDetail.aspx?id=1006

Al Adelman was one of two faculty members who spoke at AHLA’s Peer Review Hearing Officer Training Program in San Francisco on July 1, 2008. The three hour program educated over 100 attendees about legal issues surrounding medical staff hearings, steps that needed to be taken to prepare for effective hearings, use of pre-hearing procedures, burden of proof and evidentiary issues, the conduct of the hearing, and the role of the hearing officer in facilitating an efficiently run and fair hearing.
